It was during a photographic report for the Dutch magazine Columbus that Stijn Hoekstra discovered the west of Montana, in the United States. Accompanied by a journalist, this photographer and Dutch photo director based in Amsterdam, involved himself on a road trip of a dozen days. The duo stopped in several national parks, a rodeo in the village of Bigfork, and in some ghost towns. “Visiting a ghost town has been on my list for many years, most of them are kept in their original state but we also visited some that where almost completely taken over by nature”, tells the artist.

With this photo series entitled “Cinematic Montana”, the photographer also wants to be in keeping with a narrative style. “The cinematic style, light, framing and object placement, always appealed to me. I always try to tell a story with my images”, reveals Stijn Hoekstra.
