The three people are sitting on a bench, a phone in their hands, their faces lit only by their screen. This ordinary life scene was turned into a sculpture by the artist Gali May Lucas and the Design Bridge agency for the 2018 edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Placed in the center of the capital of the Netherlands, the work is titled “Absorbed by Light”, and explores the link we have with our screens. “Absorbed by Light depicts a reality we can all recognise in ourselves – a universal truth. As a spectator, you can join the narrative by taking up a position amongst the figures and sitting on the bench”, explains the artist.

If the Amsterdam Light Festival illuminated the city between last December and January, the sculpture of Gali May Lucas and Design Bridge then traveled to Bucharest for the Spotlight festival, and to the Near East for the Light in Jerusalem festival.
