Iceland has long been one of the last unexplored frontiers in the world — at least from a tourist standpoint. This photograph series by Christian Hoiberg titled “Patterns of Iceland” highlights the unique landscapes which make this destination so appealing to foreign tourists. The Icelandic highlands are mostly untouched, uninhabitable volcanic desert in which the water seeps into the ground so quickly there is no opportunity for vegetation.

What has been created is somewhat of a playground for landscape photographers and documentarians. This series shows some of the unique textures and patterns to witness in the mostly un-visited land.
