Born in Nepal and based in Vancouver, Hishimaru is a visual artist, endlessly fascinated with light. In his work, he constantly explores the real and the unreal. His series idea « Optical Delusion », came in his mind after a discussion he had with his wife: « We were discussing the inherent differences in our visual acuity. She has razor-sharp eyesight and can see perfectly, meanwhile my vision is an impressionistic field of abstraction without my glasses. This got me thinking about how my perception of the world is so intertwined with refracting light via lenses and how I could use it to explore adding distortion in an artful way ».

As he has worn glasses since a very young age, these psychedelic manipulations are, for him, part of an introspective exploration of refraction. « The way we all view reality is something preciously unique to ourselves. Our conscious minds make the universe exist for us and a simple piece of glass can shift visual perception. I wanted to play on this fragility of our visual reality in a way that is playful and combines my love of photography and 3d rendering », he says. An occasion, for us, to reconsider our own vision of reality.
