Mohamad Hafez is an artist and architect from Syria, based in New Haven, Connecticut. The artist collects scrap metal and various found objects to reconstruct landscapes and constructions of the Middle East. His series entitled UNPACKED: Refugee Baggage, in collaboration with Ahmed Badr, himself an Iraqi refugee, puts his reconstructions in the middle of suitcases to highlight the difficulties caused by the wars on people’s life.

His work is thus created to sensitize the greatest number on the terrible conditions in which they are forced to leave their homes. His artworks are associated with audio testimonies of refugees from Afghanistan, Congo, Syria, Sudan and Iraq.
