Entitled «Cyclothymia», the new series of Spanish photographer Al Mefer comes to bind once again the natural landscape to our human realities. Cyclothymia is actually the name of a mental disorder causing mood swings characterized by periods of depression followed by hypomanic episodes. «The main elements of this series are mountains injected with red tones and surrounded by cooler tones, stormy and cold weather. This highlights the emotional ambivalence that distinguishes this disorder», says the artist.

Although natural elements do not share the same emotions as we do, Al Mefer likes to think the environment can represent and echo our own feelings. He hopes that this series will speak to people suffering from this mental illness. His photographs are impressive and illustrate the subject with subtlety and relevance.
