The Dakar Rally, an annual 2-week off-roading adventure, kicked off this year in Lima, Peru and made it way through Bolivia and Argentina. It’s a test of endurance for its participants… and a passionate event to follow for its supporters. Since 2011, the best rally photo receives the Emilie Poucan Prize (Poucan is a press attaché who died in an unrelated plane crash in 2010), and this year’s recipient is Eric Vargiolu, whose exceptional shot captures the first cars setting off at sunrise across magnificent sand dunes.
