British artiste Lucy Sparrow works with an unusual material : felt. She cuts, glues, sews and assembles pieces of felt to recreate objects from our daily life or from pop culture. Still using her favourite material, she created “8’till late“, a convenience store entirely made of felt. Located on the High Line in Manhattan, the installation looks like a traditional store in which we can find all the staples of a grocery store. From crisps to frozen food by way of the book and DVD stand, Lucy Sparrow didn’t miss any detail. She previously made another installation of this kind, “The Corner Shop“, in the United Kingdom. However, in order for her store to be a close to reality as possible, the artist adapted her merchandise. So, she replaced the British marmite by the emblematic canned meat Spam.
