80 years ago, Cristobal Balenciaga created the probably most influent fashion house of the last century. Discreet, determined and hard worker, the Spanish designer has been a true power broker of style, influencing in a dramatic way the years between 1950 and 1960 but also fashion creators such as Dior, Courrèges, Givenchy. His undeniable talent, his austere conception of working and his ability to devine and shape trends, did that Cristobal Balenciaga has been elected by a young Christian Dior “the master of fashion design”.

Balenciaga is not uniquely about clothes : it is design. It is technical experimentation, plastic boldness and sense of proportions. Cristobal Balenciaga was obsessed with harmony and precision, opening the way of minimalism by his strong idea of “reaching the climax of cutting”.

The Victoria & Albert Museum of London pays a hommage to the creator thanks to an exhibition called, in a very true way, “Balenciaga : Shaping Fashion“.
