At the same time poetic, strong and rich of colors, shapes, expressions and tastes, Daniel Belet photographies are an immersive trip. The reporter started with film photography and describes the magic relationship between red light room and the photographer discovering his work. Some questions to Daniel Belet.

When you travel to realize a reportage, which are the elements of local landscape you like to capture? Which are the details you generally catch to unveil the soul of a country?

When I travel, my eyes are first attired by all the details that are different from Western countries landscape.
These elements could be different but I would say the flora, with its colors, architecture and of course culture, with all the religious practices for exemple, like here in Sri Lanka. This is a very important aspect of the island.

Wich visual elements surprised you more in Sri Lanka?

Clearly, the religious diversity between buddhism, hindi, Islam and Christianity. This aspect really touched me, it is in the same time mystical and joyful.

What fascinates you more when you meet someone you wish to portray? How do you catch them?

As a photographer, I look for singularity, it could be from the fashion point of view or from the global environment.
The approach with the subject I want to photograph is a direct exchange with the person, even if I also appreciate to surprise people and hide myself behind the camera.
