The opera season of the Paris National Opera opens with Eliogabalo  of Francesco Cavalli staged by Thomas Jolly. This opera written in 1667 is presented for the first time in Paris. Having experienced the theater to Henry VI and Richard III Shakespeare, the young director tackles the ambiguous and subversive figure of the Emperor Eliogabalo and produced his first opera production. Baroque specialist directory, Leonardo García Alarcón, head of his orchestra Cappella Mediterranea, leads a prestigious distribution led by Franco Fagioli.

To seize this work sulphurous, the director is working with the British designer Gareth Pugh who imagines first costumes for an opera. He has worked with Beyonce, Lady Gaga or Rihanna. For Eliogabalo, this creations show the lines of costumes from the time when the story takes place. Yet,  some pieces use strikingly modern in fabrics, materials and colors. Accustomed catwalks, he was able to explore another facet of creation and talent.
