The Stony Island Arts Bank is an old abandoned bank, from the 20’s and close in 1980, located in Chicago South Side, that local artist Theaster Gates (represented by White Cube Gallery) has recently renovated and transformed in an arts center. With a surface of 1800 square meters, he bought this building in ruins for the poor price of 1 $, for his non-lucrative organization Rebuild Foundation. Concerning the interior design intérieur, he preferred to preserve the ancient and brutal dimension of the walls and wood, in order to keep an authentic and historic aspect for this institution.
